Does the trick!
This was the exact item I had been looking for over a very long time. A short online "Chat" with the tech guy and I was rockin'. Only problem I encountered was once I received the cable, I discovered the projector I had was very short on display quality.

good device to do the work i was doing
the pix quality was good for the type of presentation i was doing. not for doing high quality work but for the price you can't beat it for normal use. using the s-video out put helps in the pix quality. using the video output resulted in poor quality and not being to read any text when enlarged.

Questions & Answers
What is the difference from a mini 8 pin VGA to a regular VGA. Need a piece that converts a DVR signal VGA to composite.
The 8 pin VGA on this part is a special cable (included) that is standard vga on the other end. That end connects to your PC/DVR and the 8 pin connects to our device. You can then out put Composite video.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop w/female VGA output, Emerson tv w/sv or av input. Will this product work? If not, what will?
This will allow you to connect a VGA output on a laptop to a composite video or S-video input on the Emerson TV. You would need a separate cable like 40423

will this device connect my kindle fire to a tube style magnavox television with an s-video port on it?
This device would not work for your application. You would need a device to convert mini USB to S-Video. We do not have this configuration available.

Is the vga-output also scaled, or is it just a pass through? The reason i am asking is because i have an older projector that requires a 480i signal through a vga connector...
The VGA output port would be a pass through.
